MATERIAL GIRL IN A MATERIAL WORLD

“I wish everyone could get rich and famous and have everything they ever dreamed of so they would know that’s not the answer.” Jim Carrey

We want so bad to be accepted from a world full of non-factors. Not saying our world is filled with people that aren’t important; but when you go home behind closed doors what really matters? Did the show you tried to put on make you feel better? The reality of trying to keep up with a false lifestyle is going broke or fall behind in debt by doing so.

You have girls that have to have the bags or shoes that are of little to no value especially when you don’t own anything. We all know someone who’s taken a picture of their steering wheel but won’t show you the car because it’s that outdated. Like let’s be real foreign cars don’t equal success. You’re going to always feel the need to spend because it’s always something new coming out. I get it “work hard, play harder.” after you’re done playing what’s left?

Take away everything you have, are you left empty or whole? A few of us are hiding behind material things because something is missing from the inside.”Keeping up with the Jones.” is a saying we all know too well. Ask yourself if you died today would your family have to set up a go fund me account to bury you? Think about it, would they have to sell those things that you thought made you look so cool to take care of your kids. We can’t teach our kid’s financial literacy if we don’t know how to respect money.

I’ve seen so much money. When I was at a high I wasn’t moving slow enough to do the right things with it. I’ve never been truly materialistic but I’m big on my nails and hair being done. I count it as a bill and when I started the process of trying to get a home I was up for a rude awakening. Literally breaking down what I spent my money on from going out to eat vs cooking. I wasn’t taught the importance of credit or FICO score. When my mother came to the states from Haiti her focus was working and taking care of her kids. She preached the importance of an education and that was it. I had to learn things the hard way.

Out of high school what credit card company isn’t writing you to screw you over? Preapproved you damn right I wanted it! Yes, yes, yes I signed the dotted line. Less than a week boom I was rich. Got me my fresh car, a pink coupe Honda Civic cash. I was addicted to shopping so Ross and Marshalls were in order. I was living the high life until they wanted a monthly payment. If I knew then what I know now things would’ve went different.

When you know better you do better. Some of us didn’t have the proper guidance growing up so our mess ups are different, but you have to make a choice to make it better. Now if that means not being on a scene for a year or two take a break. I promise things will change but when improving self you’ll miss out on nothing. I can always speak from a mother’s standpoint. As I’m teaching my son the importance of money he now chooses to spend mine and save his. Kids! You can’t do anything for anyone else if you can’t help yourself. If you have kids their future is depending on you to make life better than what yours was. This blog can help a 10 year old as well as a 60 year old. Growing up without flashy things make some want to have something to show for.

I can’t tell anyone what to do with their money; but I would like to enlighten you to make better financial decisions. Even if you’re on housing but going to school to better yourself you’re winning. To be on housing but spend every dollar you can trying to keep up with what is considered a status quo is sad. This isn’t to offend anyone it’s here to enlighten. If social media or going out is; what feeds the urge to fake it till you make it take a break.

A lot of people want this boss title but not really bossing up anything.  There’s a big difference between the girl that can get a section and the one that can hang in a section. Then you have a few that are nothing without the company you keep. Don’t get me wrong you can stay with mom and have a duplex or some property that is bringing you an income back. Let’s talk about our business owners paying rent in something they believe in. I see you girl and trust I understand not every month is a good one but keep pushing.

Having goals and planning how to execute them is necessary. I got screwed over paying a false company to fix my credit.  I purchased my first car with a nasty interest rate and worked on getting everything off my credit. I couldn’t begin to tell you how proud I was of myself. I took my credit from the low 400’s. I thought I was winning and was ready to purchase a home.  Nope not yet, now I’m upside down in my car loan. (Ladies, during a breakup or divorce never make a decision based off of feelings.) It will affect you longer than expected for something that was for a moment.

Life has a funny way of showing you what’s important. I had to learn through trial and error. Not everyone has to go through it that way with a mentor, life coach, and business advisor. They’re so many resources free and some you can pay for. If I could advise you to do anything it’s invest in your future. These men know the difference between a goal digger and a gold digger. Can you carry your relationship if times get hard for your mate? You hold onto these material things that don’t matter and look crazy when it’s no money. Are you an asset or liability know your worth and add tax to it.
