My Fit Journey

Growing up I was always active. I stepped, cheered, and danced. So my body type was always fit. Weight gain after having my son has never been an easy thing to deal with. Ladies my fupa you know that annoying pudge on our lower abdominal is disrespectful. It plays peek a boo with me too often. So if I’m not eating right and working out guess what’s peeking out.

If you don’t plan you plan to fail in anything in life. Meal prepping vs eating out… It’s not cheaper to eat out and going to the grocery store isn’t as time-consuming as you may think it is. Its 7 days in a week pick one, have your grocery list written out, and have an idea of some of the meals you’ll like to prepare for yourself. Don’t forget your snacks are an essential key to getting through the next meal. Oh and drinking plenty of water.

The scale and I have a love hate relationship. Especially after I learned via scale I would weigh more than I did 9 months pregnant. (Breathe its ok don’t be scale crazy.) Your best size might not conclude you weighing what you thought would be your ideal weight. When I did first gain that crazy weight I was indulging in all the wrong foods. So I couldn’t give myself a pat on the back. It’s also when I started my get fit journey.

I can’t speak for everyone but when I started my journey in 2013 it wasn’t easy. I couldn’t start off running. I felt too heavy and it literally bothered my knees so I had to walk. It went from walking to jogging, running, and now I’m sprinting. Your journey to a healthier life will not be easy if you don’t give it your all. Its many levels to this workout stuff.

When it comes down to working out (I know that can sound scary) and I’m here to let you know there’s nothing to be afraid of. They’re different phases of training; you have stabilization, strength, and power levels. To build up my stamina, I went to the beach I would walk and do a light jog for 30 minutes. I went home and did sit ups for 15-30 minutes after. That was only the beginning my body became hungry. I started dropping the weight…

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” You’ll have people love you at whatever size. Weighing 172 wasn’t ideal for me. As good as the pasta and wings were I couldn’t indulge in that anymore. The weight was sloppy on me. See there’s a difference and when you know what percent body fat you’re working with. It’ll make you understand why the scale would be good or bad.

My metabolism is not what it used to be and the way I used to eat when I was younger won’t fly today. So let’s make this clear nutrition plays an important role. Do not, I repeat, do not starve yourself. So many different things play a factor in your journey. If you’re on medication, birth control, time management, sleep and the list goes on.

Mentally I knew I could do more but I had to get my body on the same page as my mind.

My top 10 tips for you to avoid the struggle

  1.    Nutrition. (if you don’t change how you eat you will not get results)
  2. Drink plenty water. (a gallon a day)
  3.    Make time.
  4. Stay ready. (have your shoes, clothes and ready, get a workout bag never leave the house )
  5.  Set a routine. (know when you start to work out what you’ll do for the day)
  6. Document your progress. (ex.write down your measurements and keep track of them, take pictures and you’ll see the progress once you put them side by side.)
  7.  If you fall off, don’t feel sorry for yourself, get back up
  8. Don’t wait for on anyone.
  9. Make it a habit
  10. Reward yourself. (new workout clothes, shoes something to motivate you and keep you going)

It doesn’t take much to sabotage your hard work. You have to change how you eat because a good workout will not make up for bad meals.

DON’T STOP.

When I hit my first plateau I switched up my workout routine. It was cool for me because I got bored easy; so switching it up now is kind of second nature. I’ve done indoor, outdoor, cross fit, cross training, kickboxing and the list goes on. As long as you eat right and put in the work you’ll do fine.

Living a healthier life isn’t a science project. So don’t be the person full of excuses; be the person that found a way… There are too many resources out here.
